Always hungry before bed? Here’s what to do

    August 27, 2021 by Wendy 1 Comment

Do you wonder why you are often hungry at bedtime?

Do you tend to feel guilty if you have a snack right before lying down?

If you’ve ever experienced hunger before bed, and weren’t sure what to do about it, then this episode is for you.

Bedtime hunger is a real thing, and many people end up feeling guilty about having a snack or meal before they take it down for the night. Part of this is because diet culture provides so many rules about when to start and stop eating. For example, can you have dinner past 7pm? Is 9pm too late to have a snack?

In this week’s podcast episode, we dissect what might be causing your nighttime eating and help you navigate it.

    In This Episode We’ll Cover:

    • Why blanket meal timing recommendations are not helpful
    • How to identify potential causes for nighttime hunger
    • The importance of balanced meals and breakfast in all of this
    • Nighttime meal ideas that are gentle on the stomach

Is Emotional Eating a Healthy Coping Mechanism?

August 1, 2021 by Wendy Leave a Comment

Emotional eating isn’t always bad, but when done to consistently numb certain feelings, it could be a sign of a problem.

Perhaps you’ve had a really terrible day at work and end up eating the entire pan of lasagna. Or you’re celebrating your birthday and grab cake and a few bottles of wine because what else is there to do during a pandemic? Emotional eating is a totally valid way to react to any range of emotions. When we think about big holidays, family gatherings and other special events, food is a celebration. Food can also help soothe our stress and emotional pain during challenging times.
Although there’s nothing wrong with seeking food to cope with feelings, it can become an issue if it’s something you’re doing consistently. Do you have other coping mechanisms aside from food or do you find that it’s your go-to for when you’re feeling certain emotions? If you’re experiencing the latter, here are some strategies that may be helpful.

Assess What Your Current Coping Mechanisms Are.

Having a variety of coping tools can help you sit with and process emotions. However, it’s important to distinguish whether these tools are numbing your emotions or actually helping you work through them. In my experience working with clients, consistently seeking food for emotional relief is usually done for the numbing effect.

Broiled Peaches and Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert

July 26, 2021 by Wendy Leave a Comment

????????????  Peach season is HEREEEEE and we have been patiently waiting to bite into these juicy, perfectly ripe stone fruits. As per usual, we like to keep it real simple and let foods shine on their own so we whisked together a simple maple cinnamon glaze, brushed it onto the peaches and broiled to perfection.

The warmth of the peaches was a glorious match with the creaminess of @planetoat Blueberry Oat Crumble Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert! #ad

Made with oatmilk, this frozen dessert hits ALL the spots and provides the perfect melt to help cool us down this summer – AND it’s non-dairy which is another win in our book!

Simple recipe below so you can make this at home!

    Print
Broiled Peaches and Non-Dairy Frozen Desert
    Servings: 1 person
    Ingredients
    • 2 Tablespoons maple syrup
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 pinch of sea salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    • peaches
    Instructions
    1. Cut 4-5 peaches
    2. For the glaze: 2 tablespoons of maple syrup, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, pinch of sea salt, 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
    3. Brush each peach with the maple syrup glaze before broiling. Broil on high on a baking sheet positioned about 6-inches from the heat source for 5 minutes.
    4. Brush with leftover glaze after they come out of the oven (optional), scoop some @planetoat Non-Dairy Frozen Desserts of your choice (we paired this with the Blueberry Oat Crumble flavor, but any flavor would be delicious) and dig in!
