Okay tofu skeptics, we have a recipe that may have you rethinking your tofu aversion.
This is one of my favorite ways to make tofu! Savory game on point thanks to soy sauce, nutritional yeast, & garlic. I’m a big fan of dusting the pressed tofu in corn starch, pan frying, and then adding sauces and spices.
Having quality non-stick pans will make frying the tofu SO MUCH easier.
Crispy Pan-Fried Tofu
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup corn starch
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 block 12oz extra firm tofu, drained and cut into ½-inch cubes
- ¼ cup oil for frying
- ½ teaspoon each turmeric thyme, ground cumin, and curry powder
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- ½ jalapeño deseeded and chopped
- 2 tablespoons tamari
- 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
Instructions
-
In a bowl, mix together the corn starch, pepper, and salt. Dust each tofu cube into the starch mix and set aside.
-
Heat oil in a pan and sauté tofu over high heat for 6-8 minutes, until tofu is golden. Depending on the size of your pan, you may need to do this in multiple batches.
-
Once crispy, add the spices and stir until tofu is uniformly yellow.
-
Then add garlic, chili, tamari, and nutritional yeast. Sauté a little longer, until golden brown. Enjoy with your favorite grains and vegetables!
