Turn Basic Ingredients Into Exciting Meals w/ Gaby Dalkin

May 20, 2020 by Wendy Leave a Comment

Most of us have been spending more time in the kitchen lately because we sort of have to. Today we’re talking with Gaby Dalkin from What’s Gaby Cooking about making cooking more approachable and fun during quarantine. We also do a fun fire round where Gaby puts together delicious meals featuring random ingredients you all submitted to us on IG!

Gaby Dalkin (@whatsgabycookin) is a trained chef, recipe developer, entrepreneur and food/lifestyle writer based in Los Angeles. Her blog, WhatsGabyCooking.com, features original recipes and images along with highlights from Gaby’s life and travels. In April 2020, Gaby released her third cookbook, What’s Gaby Cooking: Eat What You Want: 125 Recipes for Real Life. The book reflects Gaby’s approach to balancing moderation and indulgence, while inviting readers to let go of rules and restrictions and simply enjoy good food.

    Tune in to learn:

    • How Gaby went from eating only buttered noodles and grilled cheese to becoming a 3x cookbook author and top chef
    • Her first job as a chef for a high profile celebrity (you’ll never guess who it was)
    • We give Gaby your basic quarantine ingredients and she provides genius meal ideas (this would actually be a good reality show)
    • Her faaaavvvvorite restaurants in LA (we were frantically writing them down as she told us)
    • How she launched an entire podcast about quarantine cooking in just 3 days (it’s actually brilliant) & MORE

Apple Turmeric Ginger Juice (no juicer needed)

May 19, 2020 by Wendy Leave a Comment

I cant deal with juicers. They take up so much space and are a headache to clean. I love homemade juices though, so wanted to show you my quick way to have the juice and drink it too ? Just blend your ingredients (if it’s something hardy like carrots or beets, use more water to help break down the fibers) and strain. This is one of my go-to recipes.

    • 1 apple or pear ⠀
    • 1” Knob of ginger ⠀
    • Juice of 1 lemon ⠀
    • Pinch of turmeric ⠀
    • 1/2 tablespoon maple syrup ⠀

I know right now, a lot of us are looking for immune supportive practices. Want to emphasize that some of these ingredients are immune supportive, but it’s not in any way a prevention or cure for anything immune related. In yesterday’s podcast episode we went into the complexities of our immune systems, and how it’s not as simple as boosting it up by eating turmeric. There are so many factors that affect how our immune systems work, and I think with all the madness going on, now is a great opportunity to slow down and figure out what sustainable health looks like for you. ⠀
    ⠀
Anyways, enjoy the recipe and tune into the episode to hear more of our thoughts on the topic. Xoxo -Wendy

Most of us have been spending more time in the kitchen lately because we sort of have to. Having the best kitchen tools for your specific needs can make that time more enjoyable. Whether or not cooking is typically your thing, it’s times like these that highlight the importance of knowing your way around the kitchen. Cooking at home has a number of benefits, but it’s understandable that so many people don’t care for it. It can be time-consuming, stressful, and exhausting. But it can also be easy, simple, satisfying, and empowering, especially if you have the right equipment.

Through talking with clients, I’ve noticed that one of the biggest reasons people are intimidated by cooking is because they’re not sure what they need to make the process more seamless. Read out latest SELF article for 15 of the best kitchen tools and kitchen utensil sets to help get you started!
