In the past few days, we’ve been hit up by countless publications, podcasts, and influencers asking us to be on their platforms to do a podcast interview, host an IG live, or have a conversation on racism. Oftentimes, these requests come with a ridiculously tight turnaround, which feels really inconsiderate. We’re human beings. We have lives. Believe it or not, we’re actually busy. Also, there’s a lot of emotional labor and trauma involved in being vulnerable and sharing our experiences with racism.
PLUS! We’ve contributed to COUNTLESS articles (go to our press page) about inclusivity and social justice before it was trending. We’ve also done so. many. podcast episodes on these topics (check our BLM highlight for some of the most recent episodes). The work is out there. If you have looked at some of the work, and still want to collaborate, make an effort to be more mindful about how you reach out + what your asks are.
In this week’s episode, we go in on why we’re frustrated and exhausted. But we also make sure to include some action items on what you (black, POC, white) can do to amplify black voices both on and offline.
In This Episode We’ll Cover:
- How to respectfully contact black creators for collaboration
- Ways to genuinely and meaningfully engage with content
- Things to consider before hitting the follow button on IG
- The importance of financially supporting black businesses
- Things you can do offline to support & amplify black voices & MORE!

Thank you for creating this podcast! I’m a Black graduate student living in NYC who recently matched and will be starting my dietetic internship this year. I had the pleasure of meeting you both this year at FNCE Diversify Dietetics meet-up, and honestly you were the first two dietitians of color that were friends in my head lol.
So I’m happy that you are sharing your experiences as Black women through all of the blackout media blitz. I have shared similar encounters of either white guilt or plain awkwardness, and asked “how I’m doing” one too many times. All I can think is how resilient my people are and continue to be. Thank you for talking up space during this time to share content apologetically. I plan to share this episode some of my white dietitian, intern or student peers will hopefully become more aware of what there efforts look like to Black people.
Thank you so much for leaving this thoughtful comment!! Super excited to have you join this field and push the work forward
This podcast was EXCELLENT! Thank you for sharing so much when you have SO much going on. You are so kind, honest and respectful (your work consistently demonstrates this) in your sharing. Sending you peace and ease!
Thank you for those kind words <3
This was one of the most perfect episodes especially for this time. I think it validated some of the thoughts and concerns I’ve had as a Black woman. And I’m so glad you mentioned just how we, as Black listeners can also do better. I’ve been listening for years, I’ve been *trying to* follow along with your Academy program, and I never even thought to share or leave a comment. So thank you for opening my eyes to how our reviews and feedback help you with sponsors, etc. Love your podcasts and your energy!
Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback! We appreciate you tuning in <3
