Smoky Sage Coconut Cocktails

These Smoky Sage Coconut Cocktails are everything you need to get your Friday night started right! A few years ago, a good friend of mine put me on to the most magical tip. When drinking alcohol, pair it with coconut water to avoid the nasty hangover. Why hadn’t I thought of that sooner? Coconut water tastes so delicious, and pairs so well with different types of liquor. It also works wonders in smoothies, desserts, or on its own. 

Aside from providing a delicious and subtle sweetness, coconut water is a good source of minerals like potassium, magnesium, and manganese. It’s also low in sugar and calories compared to your typical cocktail mixers. These Smoky Sage Coconut Cocktails provide the perfect balance of flavor and hydration!

Let’s get started on the preparation. First, you’ll add the rum to the cocktail glass. Add the coconut water, and mix using swizzle stick. For the coconut water, make sure you go for 100% unsweetened coconut water. Many times, the supermarket has coconut waters that have added sugars, and we definitely don’t want to use that. Once mixed, we’ll move onto the sage. Using the flame from your stove or a small torch, pass the edges of the leaf through direct fire for a few seconds. You want to avoid the sage becoming ash, but want the edges to brown a bit. You should be able to smell the lovely smell of the sage as it heats.

Once that’s done, simply top the cocktail with the sage leaf and enjoy! Aside from using sage for cooking, I also burn dried sage to cleanse my home of negative energy. Have any of you done this too?
